Conscience

Conscience moves us to turn from our mistakes: Proverbs 28:13 (NIV) He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

We can suppress our conscience:  Jonah 1:5 (NIV) All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.

The Holy Spirit can speak through our conscience: Romans 9:1 (NIV)  I speak the truth in Christ--I am not lying, my conscience confirms it in the Holy Spirit.

Keep your conscience clear: 1 Timothy 1:18-19 (NIV) 18 Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith.

Jesus’ forgiveness clears our conscience:  Hebrews 9:14 (NIV)  How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

"Conscience is the smart phone by which God speaks to us."  James J. Metcalf (paraphrased)
