What would Jesus do?

Love one another

Job 31:16-22 (NIV) 16  "If I have denied the desires of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary, 17  if I have kept my bread to myself, not sharing it with the fatherless-- 18  but from my youth I reared him as would a father, and from my birth I guided the widow-- 19  if I have seen anyone perishing for lack of clothing, or a needy man without a garment, 20  and his heart did not bless me for warming him with the fleece from my sheep, 21  if I have raised my hand against the fatherless, knowing that I had influence in court, 22  then let my arm fall from the shoulder, let it be broken off at the joint.

James 1:27 (NIV) 27  Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 2:14-17 (NIV) 14  What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15  Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16  If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17  In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

1 John 3:14-17 (NIV) 14  We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15  Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him. 16  This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17  If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?

Ephesians 2:8-10 (NIV) 8  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9  not by works, so that no one can boast. 10  For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Our motto will be, “What would Jesus do?” Our aim will be to act just as He would if He were in our places, regardless of immediate results. After we have asked the Spirit to tell us what Jesus would do and have received an answer to it, we are to act regardless of the result to ourselves.  Charles Sheldon (1857-1946) 101 Quotable Christians
