A Time of Silver Stillness

Psalm 66:10 “For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver.” (NIV)

Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God!” (NRSV)

In Psalm 66:10, we are reminded that the trials of life can make us better people, especially if those trials bring us closer to God. During these difficult times of social distancing, our schedules have been severely altered, and in most cases life has taken a very different pace—a slower pace in which stillness, and not the constant motion that we are accustomed to, is a significant part of our daily routines. But that stillness that these trying times have forced upon us may be God’s way of refining us, because that stillness offers us the occasion to consider Psalm 46:10. And when we slow down and take this time of stillness to feast upon God’s Word, we may find that we can shine anew—like polished silver dimes—as we acknowledge Who is still in control of all things and know that He is God.
