The God Who Loves Us and Suffered for Us

Psalm 146:5-9 (NIV) 5  Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, 6  the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them-- the LORD, who remains faithful forever. 7  He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free, 8  the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. 9  The LORD watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV) The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing."

John 16:27 (NIV) [Jesus said:] The Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.

"We have a God who loves. That means that we have a God who suffers."  J. B. Phillips (1906-1982)
