Standing on the Promises

God’s promise can be trusted-- Genesis 9:17 (NIV) So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth."

Jesus established a new covenant-- Luke 22:20 (NIV) In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

God’s covenant brings life-- 2 Corinthians 3:6 (NIV) He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

The new covenant is superior to the old covenant-- Hebrews 8:6 (NIV) But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

God is the God of promise. He keeps his word, even when that seems impossible; even when the circumstances seem to point to the opposite. Colin Urquhart (1940- )
