James 4:8 (NIV) 8  Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Psalm 29:1-2 (NIV) 1  Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2  Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

Exodus 34:14 (NIV) 14  Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Exodus 3:2-6 (NIV) 2  There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3  So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight--why the bush does not burn up." 4  When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am." 5  "Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." 6  Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

Hebrews 12:28-29 (NIV) 28  Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29  for our "God is a consuming fire."

The one essential condition of human existence is that man should always be able to bow down before something infinitely great. If men are deprived of the infinitely great, they will not go on living and will die of despair. The Infinite and the Eternal are as essential for man as the little planet on which he dwells.  Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Leadership, Vol. 19, no. 1.
