Resisting conformity to the world (herd), but conforming to God’s commandments (join His flock)

Leviticus 18:1-5 (NLT) 1  Then the LORD said to Moses, 2  “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. I am the LORD your God. 3  So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life. 4  You must obey all my regulations and be careful to obey my decrees, for I am the LORD your God. 5  If you obey my decrees and my regulations, you will find life through them. I am the LORD.

Romans 12:2 (NLT)   Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

1 Peter 3:13-16 (NLT) 13  Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14  But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. 15  Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. 16  But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.

Conformity is one of the most fundamental dishonesties of all. When we reject our specialness, water down our God-given individuality and uniqueness, we begin to lose our freedom. The conformist is in no way a free man. He has to follow the herd.  Norman Vincent Peale [Draper's Book of Quotations for the Christian World]
