God’s Righteousness

Cross carried by Christ websize new

Isaiah 64:6 (NIV) 6  All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Ephesians 6:14 (NIV) 14  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.

2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV) 16  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Philippians 3:9 (NIV) 9  and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

Why did God abolish the law? Its standards reflected his righteousness, but the law as a system was replaced because it was powerless. It could not bring us what we desperately need—righteousness.  Erwin W. Lutzer  (Draper's Book of Quotations for the Christian World)
