Freedom in Christ

Psalm 146:5-7 (HCSB) 5  Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, 6  the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them. He remains faithful forever, 7  executing justice for the exploited and giving food to the hungry. The LORD frees prisoners.

Isaiah 58:6 (NIV) Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?

Luke 4:18-19 (HCSB) 18  The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, 19  to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

John 8:31-32 (HCSB) 31  So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. 32  You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

A free will is not the liberty to do whatever one likes, but the power of doing whatever one sees ought to be done, even in the very face of otherwise overwhelming impulse. There lies freedom indeed.  George Macdonald (1824-1905)  Draper's Book of Quotations for the Christian World.
