The Sin of Pride

openbible 940x320

Matthew 23:12 (NIV)  For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

Luke 9:46-48 (NIV) 46  An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. 47  Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48  Then he said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all--he is the greatest."

Romans 3:27 (NIV) Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith.

1 Corinthians 13:4 (NIV)  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

All man’s troubles emanate from his pride.   D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones  (101 Quotable Christians)
