Humility

Psalm 10:17 (NKJV) LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear.

Psalm 25:9 (NKJV) The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way.

Proverbs 3:34 (NKJV) Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble.

Matthew 5:3 (NKJV) "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Some years ago I saw what is called a sensitive plant. I happened to breathe on it, and suddenly it folded its leaves; I touched it, and it drooped. Humility is as sensitive as that; it cannot safely be brought out on exhibition. A man who is flattering himself that he is humble, and is walking close to the Master, is self-deceived. It consists not in thinking meanly of ourselves, but in not thinking of ourselves at all. Moses wist not that his face shone. If humility speaks of itself, it is gone. D. L. Moody, Anecdotes, Incidents and Illustrations, 2006, Wordsearch.
