The Crown

Crosses on Snowy Peak websize

1 Corinthians 9:25 (NIV) 25  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

Philippians 4:1 (NIV) 1  Therefore, my brothers, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends!

1 Thessalonians 2:19 (NIV) 19  For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?

2 Timothy 2:5 (NIV) 5  Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules.

2 Timothy 4:8 (NIV) 8  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  A cheap Christianity, without a cross, will prove in end a useless Christianity, without a crown.   J. C. Ryle (101 Quotable Christians)
