Commitment to the Cross

The cross of Golgatha

Mark 8:34 (KJV) And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

1 Corinthians 1:17-18 (NIV)  17  For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel--not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 18  For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Colossians 1:20-22 (NIV) 20  and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21  Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22  But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation--

Unless I understand the Cross, I cannot understand why my commitment to what is right must take precedence over what I prefer.  Ravi Zacharias (101 Quotable Christians)
