Facing reality and knowing God’s faithfulness

Joshua 23:14 (NIV) Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.

Luke 2:29 (NIV) Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.

James 1:11 (NIV) For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.

My 6-year-old son Ryan was mentally calculating our kids' future ages. He counted in his head, saying, "When Ayme is 13, Liesel will be 17. When I'm 22, Kurt will be 25." I confirmed his conclusions and asked, "And what will that make me?"  "Dead," he answered. —Karen S.
