The Politically Correct “Holiday Season”

Deuteronomy 12:30 (NIV) 30  And after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, "How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same."

1 Corinthians 7:31 (NIV) For this world in its present form is passing away.

Revelation 3:15 (NIV) I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!

To avoid offending anybody, the schools dropped religion altogether and started singing about the weather. At my son's school, they now hold the winter program in February and sing increasingly non-memorable songs such as "Winter Wonderland," "Frosty the Snowman" and—this is a real song—"Suzy Snowflake," all of which is pretty funny because we live in Miami. A visitor from another planet would assume that the children belonged to the Church of Meteorology. —Dave Barry in his "Notes on Western Civilization" (Chicago Tribune Magazine, July 28, 1991)
