Honesty is God’s Policy

Honesty is commanded by God:

Exodus 20:16 (TLB) You must not lie.

Only honest people can worship God:

Psalm 24:3-4 (NET1) 3 Who is allowed to ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may go up to his holy dwelling place? 4 The one whose deeds are blameless and whose motives are pure, who does not lie, or make promises with no intention of keeping them.

God is truth and desires truth:

Psalm 51:6-7 (HCSB) 6 Surely You desire integrity in the inner self, and You teach me wisdom deep within. 7 Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

Be honest:

Proverbs 19:1 (HCSB) Better a poor man who lives with integrity than someone who has deceitful lips and is a fool.

Christians should put away dishonesty from their lives:

Ephesians 4:25 (HCSB) Since you put away lying, Speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, because we are members of one another.

Charles R. Swindoll (1934- ):

Honesty has a beautiful and refreshing simplicity about it. No ulterior motives. No hidden meanings. An absence of hypocrisy, duplicity, political games, and verbal superficiality. As honesty and real integrity characterize our lives, there will be no need to manipulate others.
