Comfort

Job 2:12-13 (NIV) 12 When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. 13 Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.

Matthew 5:4 (NIV) Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

John 14:15-17 (TLB) 15 If you love me, obey me; 16 and I will ask the Father and he will give you another Comforter, and he will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, for it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you do, for he lives with you now and some day shall be in you.

God does not comfort us to make us comfortable, but to make us comforters.   John Henry Jowett (1817-1893)
