WE SHOULD HAVE NO OTHER GODS

Exodus 20:3 (NIV) “You shall have no other gods before me.”

DO NOT BE DEVOTED TO ANYONE OR ANYTHING MORE THAN GOD

Deuteronomy 4:23 (NIV)  Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the LORD your God has forbidden.

DEVOTE YOUR HEART TO GOD

Joshua 24:14 (NIV) Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

LOOK TO GOD FOR YOUR SECURITY

Judges 10:13-16 (NIV) 13  But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you. 14  Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!" 15  But the Israelites said to the LORD, "We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best, but please rescue us now." 16  Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the LORD. And he could bear Israel's misery no longer.

GOD WILL NOT SHARE HIS GLORY WITH ANYTHING ELSE

Isaiah 42:8 (NIV) I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Idolatry is not only the adoration of images... but also trust in one's own righteousness, works and merits, and putting confidence in riches and power.  Martin Luther (1483-1546)
