Believe:
We are an independent Baptist church with an Arminian/Wesleyan theology.  We believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried; and on the third day He physically rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come again to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; We believe in the Holy Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. (Adapted from the Apostle’s Creed.)[/tab][/tabgroup][/two_thirds]

We believe in the five points of Arminian theology emphasizing God’s prevenient grace, humanity’s free will and responsibility for sin, and the opportunity of all people to be saved through the repentance of their sins and acceptance of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

  1. Free Will (or Human Ability and Responsibility)

Despite the fall of humanity that came with Adam’s sin, humans possess the ability to choose salvation through God’s grace and by faith in Jesus Christ.  While sin has impaired this ability, God’s grace enables us to respond in faith to the Gospel Message that salvation is through Christ alone. Such acceptance of Jesus Christ involves a person’s own response to God’s gracious initiative for which every person is responsible.

  1. Conditional Election

We believe in conditional election, meaning that God elects individuals for salvation based on His foreknowledge of their faith. God does not predestine anyone arbitrarily; rather, He foresees who will accept His call to salvation. Hence, election is conditioned upon one’s personal response and faith in Christ.

  1. Unlimited Atonement

Christ died for all people, making salvation available to everyone. While not everyone will accept Jesus’ amazing offer of salvation, Christ’s cleansing blood shed on the Cross offers the atonement of sin to everyone who commits to Him as Lord and Savior, ensuring that no one is excluded from the opportunity to receive Christ’s redemptive act.  Accordingly, we reject the Calvinist view of limited atonement, whereby Christ’s sacrifice is said to be reserved solely for an arbitrary group of “elect.”

  1. Resistible Grace

The Holy Spirit puts depraved, sinful humanity in a position that enables a person to accept God’s grace or, if the person so chooses—to resist God’s Grace. While God extends His grace to everyone, we believe that individuals are responsible to freely to accept or reject His grace. This means that salvation is not forced upon anyone; instead, it requires a genuine, willing response from the individual to commit his or her life to Jesus Christ.

  1. The Possibility of Falling from Grace

Once an individual accepts salvation through grace by faith in Jesus Christ, they must diligently remain faithful to Him throughout their lives and guard themselves, through the help of the Holy Spirit, from falling away from faith. Perseverance in faith is vital and requires an ongoing commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

In summary, while God, in His sovereignty and loving grace, initiates salvation, it ultimately requires, through the power and assistance of the Holy Spirit, a human response to follow Christ and a definitive decision to repent and accept Jesus’ atoning blood shed on the Cross and His physical Resurrection from the tomb as humanity’s only hope for salvation in God’s Eternal Heavenly Kingdom.  While we reject the reformed theology of Calvinism, we welcome fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ who may hold to all, or some, of such Calvinist views.

JUSTICE:  The Bible consistently commands God’s people to pursue justice and fairness, showing His heart for equity, mercy, and righteousness in every relationship.  Scripture repeatedly emphasizes care, fairness and justice for the poor, widows, orphans and foreigners—those most likely to be overlooked. To “act justly” is to mirror God’s own heart, ensuring that fairness, mercy and advocacy for the vulnerable shape both our personal conduct and community life.

RACISM:  God's Word condemns racism through God’s creation of all people in His image, His impartial justice, Christ’s unifying work on the Cross, and the command for us to love one another without distinction.  We believe that racism is incompatible with the Gospel because it denies the equal worth and unity of humanity in Christ; and, therefore, racism is a great sin.

POVERTY:  The Bible repeatedly calls God’s people to defend the poor, care for the needy, and fight against poverty through justice, generosity, and compassion.  We are called to reflect God’s justice and mercy by ensuring no one is left destitute.

MARRIAGE AND HUMAN SEXUALITY:  We believe that marriage is solely between a man and a woman, and that homosexuality and lesbianism are against God's plan for humanity and, as such, is a sin.  And yet, it is no more a sin than that of a man and a woman living together outside the institution of marriage.  We believe that there are only two genders: Biological male and biological female.

ABORTION: We believe human life begins at conception and that all life, including that of a human embryo, is sacred.  The taking of such life is a sin.
