Don’t be spiritually lazy

Proverbs 6:6-9 (TEV) 6  Lazy people should learn a lesson from the way ants live. 7  They have no leader, chief, or ruler, 8  but they store up their food during the summer, getting ready for winter. 9  How long is the lazy man going to lie around? When is he ever going to get up?

Proverbs 26:16 (NIV) The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer discreetly.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV) 28  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Going down some old cement steps, I noticed an ant carrying a leaf on its back. The leaf was many times bigger than the ant. Then the ant came to a big crack in the cement that it couldn't cross. The ant stopped a moment. I wondered if the ant would turn back or proceed into the crack without the leaf. Instead, the ant put the leaf across the crack and then crossed the crack by walking across the leaf. On the other side, the ant picked up the leaf and continued on its journey.  It made me think that the burdens of today will be the bridges by which we will be able to cross the hard places in life in the future.  Bernabe Spivey, Today's Best Illustrations – Volume 5, (Carol Stream, IL: Christianity Today, 1997), WORDsearch CROSS e-book, Under: "BURDENS".
