God Carries Us Through Grief and Comforts Us

We need to come to God in our sorrow: Job 35:9-11 (NIV) 9 "Men cry out under a load of oppression; they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful. 10 But no one says, 'Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night, 11 who teaches more to us than to the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds of the air?'

God comforts us through His power: Isaiah 40:10-11 (NIV) 10 See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and his arm rules for him. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. 11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

God promises to comfort those who grieve: Matthew 5:4 (TEV) "Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them!"

God’s Holy Spirit is our Comforter: John 14:16 (TLB) [Jesus said:] "I will ask the Father and he will give you another Comforter, and he will never leave you."

"Deep is the plowing of grief! But oftentimes less would not suffice for the agriculture of God."  Thomas De Quincey (1785-1859)
