Unity

Beside the Still Water

Believers must seek unity in all essentials:

1 Corinthians 1:10 (NIV)  I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.

Unity among believers pleases God:

Psalm 133:1 (NIV) How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!

There can be great unity even in great diversity:

Ephesians 4:3 (NIV)  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Unity ought to be a distinctive mark among Christians:

Philippians 2:1-2 (NIV) 1  If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2  then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

As marriage is a metaphor for the church, so the church is a metaphor for marriage. The church has a unity we are to preserve. The church has a diversity we are to value. The church has a selfless task in which, together, we are to engage. This is marriage.—James Long, Marriage Partnership, Vol. 7, no. 3. Today's Best Illustrations – Volumes 1-4.
